Chihuly at Cheekwood

Dramatically installed both indoors and out, this exhibition will transform Cheekwood into an enchanting wonderland of color, light and form, creating a spectacular interaction between nature and art. In honor of Cheekwood’s 50th anniversary, the installation will feature thousands of the artist’s hand-blown glass sculptures including the stunning neon-yellow 30-foot sculpture “Saffron Tower” and will be the largest display of his work in Nashville.

Ever taken in an art exhibition in the dark? Don’t miss Chihuly Nights every Thursday and Friday evening at Cheekwood. Our beautiful grounds will be specially lit for strolling, and each of Chihuly’s installations will be brilliantly illuminated for a unique and stunning nighttime art experience. Refreshments will be available for purchase on site. $5 Cheekwood Members, Free for members’ children 17 and under.

Join us in the studio as we learn about what inspires glass artist, Dale Chihuly. What was he thinking about? Explore his inspirations and processes behind Chihuly at Cheekwood!
SOLD OUT - Chihuly at the Frist - Adult Workshop: Glassblowing
Saturday, June 5, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm AND Sunday, June 6, 1:00–5:00 pm (2-day workshop)
Explore the ancient art of glassblowing. Participants will learn the fundamentals of working with hot glass in this fun and challenging workshop. Appropriate glassworking tools and methods will be demonstrated by Ryan Gothrup, an experienced glass artist, and then used by students. Emphasis will be on safety and good work habits. $150 Frist Center members; $170 nonmembers; cost includes all supplies and gallery admission. Participants may bring their own lunches or purchase them in the Frist Center’s café.
* Please come prepared to work during the first class session; bring sunglasses and wear a cotton shirt and pants. No shorts, synthetic materials, or sandals allowed. Participants must be AT LEAST 56 inches in height in order to use the equipment necessary to participate in this class. Please keep in mind that this workshop has high heat temperatures and will take place outside.
Chihuly at the Frist - Glassblowing Demonstration

Be dazzled and amazed as glass artist Ryan Gothrup demonstrates the ancient art of glassblowing in the Frist Center’s Courtyard.
Ryan Gothrup has been producing one of a kind glass objects for more than twelve years. Gothrup received his B.F.A. from Kent State University and recently received his M.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University. He exhibits and sells his glass across the country.
Teen Glass Blowing Workshop: Ages 14-18
June 10 & 11, 1 - 5:00 pm
